Up at 6am. Read some mail, scanned some sites, got TheWife up, and tangled with the exercise bike -- all part of a balanced morning. Off to work surprisingly early, given that I got up sort of late and still did everything I normally do. Not quite sure how I managed that, but I'd like to do it more often.

Not the greatest day at work -- political b.s. is stinkin' up the place again, and I've got to act like a manager. (I like to pretend that I'm not a manager, but I really sort of am. sigh)

Had a couple beers after work, and then dashed for the Metro to make it to a Bruce Sterling reading down in deepest, darkest Virginia. Was a bit late (in that Bruce had already started talking) but didn't miss anything too important (in that he was just doing a little intro and hadn't actually started the reading proper). Bought the new book and got it signed, and then hung out with Glen "immediacy" Engle-Cox. Glen is friends with Bruce and with Mike Godwin, so I got to hang out with Mike and his girlfriend (who covers DHS for Congressional Quarterly) and Bruce and Glen for a bit after the signing, which was pretty cool. Cards were exchanged, networking happened. Post-reading, Glen and I went out for another couple of beers and some dinner at an Irish place, and had a really nice, wide-ranging conversation.

After dinner, I took the Metro back to work, hopped in the car, and motored on home, arriving about 12:30am, and heading straight to bed.
